Laser snoring elimination - Nightlase

NightLase® is a non-invasive and non-surgical laser therapy to improve sleep quality.

It eliminates symptoms of sleep apnoea and reduces the volume of snoring through a gentle, laser-induced tightening (contraction) effect of the soft palate tissue.

Better sleep for you and your partner

Does your partner complain that your snoring is causing him to lose sleep, or maybe even retreat to another bedroom so he can sleep undisturbed?

We may make fun of it or even deny that it happens, but the truth is that snoring is a real problem in many bedrooms. Fortunately for you we no longer have to accept this.

With NightLase® laser therapy, you and everyone sharing your room at night can get a good night's sleep again. NightLase® is a non-invasive procedure that uses a laser to stretch the tissues at the back of the throat, thereby effectively reduces snoring.

Why do we snore?

Snoring occurs when airflow through the mouth and/or nose is obstructed during sleep. This happens for a number of reasons, for example:

  • Obstructed nasal passages
This can cause temporary problems such as seasonal allergies, colds or sinus infections. It can also be a more permanent condition if you have a bulging nasal septum or nasal polyps.
  • Poor muscle tone
The muscles of the throat and tongue can become too relaxed during sleep, causing them to collapse and fall back into the airways.
  • Excess tissue in the throat
This is common in overweight people. Just as you can have excess fat and tissue on the outside of your body, being overweight can cause excess tissue to build up in your throat.
  • Extended soft sky and/or uvula
The fleshy, flexible tissue at the back of the throat is called the soft palate, and the hanging soft tissue at the back of the throat is called the uvula. If either of these tissues is too long, it can cause the opening between the nose and the back of the throat to be too narrow.

45 % of men and 30 % of women experience regular snoring episodes.

How does Nightlase work?

When you fall asleep, the muscles at the back of your throat relax. This relaxation causes the muscles that hold the airways open to contract, partially obstructing airflow. As the air passes the obstruction, it causes vibrations and creates a sound - snoring.

NightLase® uses laser light to shrink the tissues in the back of the mouth and create a wider air passage.

In the NightLase® procedure, laser light is shone on the soft palate, uvula, base of the tongue and back of the throat. This causes the collagen in the tissues to shrink and become less loose, allowing new, firmer collagen to form.

The result is firmer tissues and muscles in the mouth, throat and airways, which helps open up airflow, allowing us to breathe better and get a better quality sleep.

Yes and no. You can maintain the benefits of Nightlase® therapy with maintenance visits. The effects of the treatment usually last from 6 to 14 months.

We find that most patients need maintenance therapies once a year. You and your bed-sharing partner will decide when you are ready. There are no known side-effects from frequent attendance at maintenance therapies.

For best results, we recommend 3-4 treatments every 2 weeks.

There are no risks with this treatment, as the heat generated by the laser is targeted and controlled, and only stimulates collagen production.

Some patients have reported a slight sore throat after the treatment, but they can use over-the-counter painkillers to relieve the pain.

Nightlase therapy lasts on average 15 minutes.
