Dermoscope examination of skin tags
The NYD clinic offers a wide range of specialist dermatovenerology examinations and procedures, such as specialist dermatological examinations, skin mole examinations and removal of growths and other lesions.
What is dermatoscopy or dermoscopy?
Dermatoscopic examination of moles or dermatoscopy involves the examination of moles on the skin of the whole body, the scalp and visible mucous membranes.
A dermatoscope, an optical instrument used to magnify images of skin lesions, is used to examine moles. The dermatoscope is used for early detection of melanoma, increasing diagnostic accuracy and avoiding unnecessary surgery for common moles and benign lesions.

How do I prepare for a dermatological examination?
Before a dermatological examination, it is best to maintain your hygiene as you would otherwise. For example, if the problem you are coming in for is related to excessively oily skin, it is not a good idea to clean your skin excessively just before the examination, as the dermatologist would not see your skin as it is.
It is also not advisable to apply preparations to the skin immediately before the examination, as they can mask skin changes. For example, a large amount of cosmetic products may hide acne or other skin lesions, making the dermatological examination more difficult.

When should I have my moles checked?
We recommend skin mole screening for the sudden appearance of new signs, changes in existing signs (appearance of asymmetry, changes in colour, size, appearance of raised, irregular edges) and symptoms such as itching or bleeding inside the lesionwhich may indicate malignant transformation.
Special attention should be paid to any formation that does not look like other changes on the skin, the so-called "ugly duckling" sign and the appearance of a new birthmark after the age of 40.
An overview of the signs is recommended once a year, more often in higher-risk individuals, on the advice of a dermatologist.
How is the first check-up with a dermatologist?
The first step is to talk to a dermatologist. During the examination, you can ask any questions you are interested in and the doctor will ask you any questions she thinks are important.
After the interview, a dermatological skin examination is carried out. This refers to an examination of the skin of the extremities, trunk, face, scalp and nails. Sometimes it is not necessary to examine the skin of the whole body, but it all depends on the doctor's assessment. The skin can be examined with the naked eye or with a dermatoscope.
At the first examination, a definitive or working diagnosis is made and, if necessary, a recommendation is made for tests to be carried out in order to make a definitive diagnosis and prescribe therapy. Certain types of treatment can be given immediately in the outpatient clinic during the dermatological examination.

How is the mole examination carried out?
A dermatoscopic examination consists of examining each mole and growth on the skin with a dermatoscope, an optical instrument that magnifies the image between 15 and 120 times, depending on the size, characteristics and needs of the mole. The dermatoscope is used to analyse in depth the appearance of the surface and edges of the mole, the distribution of the pigment and the interior of the mole, i.e. its structure, shape and colour.
The mole is then photographed and documented for further analysis, and the photographs are used to compare moles from one examination to the next, so that the doctor can monitor their development and changes.
After the examination, the doctor will determine whether the mole needs to be removed. Patients are recommended to have a dermatoscopic examination once a year, and more frequently for those at increased risk, on the advice of their doctor.
The duration of the examination depends on the number of marks on the patient's body, and usually lasts between 20 and 40 minutes.
How do I prepare for a mole examination?
Patients should come to the dermatoscopic examination of moles with clean and washed skin and should not apply any cosmetic or medical products to their skin on the day of the examination.
In addition, the check does not require any additional or special preparations.
