Laser and surgical removal of skin tags

If you have growths on your body that bother you functionally and aesthetically, such as moles or warts, you can easily remove them.

The most common methods are laser and surgical removal.

What is the removal of moles and other growths?

Removal of moles and benign skin lesions is a procedure that removes unwanted growths on the skin, which are usually harmless.

These lesions include moles, warts, keratoses, fibromas, lipomas and other types of benign skin lesions.

We choose to remove moles and benign skin lesions for different reasons:

Aesthetic-functional: The person may want to remove moles or other skin changes that they find unattractive, distracting in their daily life (e.g. pinning clothes to raised moles) or that affect their self-esteem.

Medical: Removal of the mole may be medically necessary if you suspect a malignant change. In such cases, removal of the mole allows the tissue to be analysed for the presence of cancer or other abnormalities.

Surgical removal of moles

Surgical excision remains the main method of removing skin lesions, especially for those that are suspicious or have been diagnosed as cancerous. This method involves the precise removal of the lesion together with a margin of healthy skin around it, ensuring that all potentially harmful cells are removed. The procedure is usually performed under local anaesthetic, making it a safe and relatively comfortable option for patients.

The surgical excision process is precise and requires experienced hands and a deep understanding of skin anatomy. Our clinic boasts a team of highly qualified dermatological surgeons who specialise in excision techniques. Their expertise allows for the effective removal of lesions with a focus on minimising scarring and maintaining the aesthetic appearance of the skin.

One of the key advantages of surgical excision is its effectiveness in providing a definitive diagnosis and treatment in one procedure. The removed tissue is sent to the laboratory for histopathological examination, which provides valuable information on the nature of the lesion and ensures that the margins are free of any disease.

Post-operative care is tailored to each patient, with wound care instructions that promote healing and reduce the risk of infection. Our clinic offers comprehensive aftercare, including wound checks and scar management advice, to ensure that every patient achieves the best possible outcome.

Excochleation and cauterisation

Under local anaesthesia, a sharp instrument is used to remove the lesion or cancer, and a special instrument (electrocautery) is used to treat the surrounding tissue to stop bleeding and any residual lesions at the wound edge. Most patients develop a flat, whitish scar no bigger than the removed lesion after healing is complete.

Cryosurgery (freezing with liquid nitrogen)

It is a type of procedure used for very small lesions (e.g. warts) or actinic keratoses.

Laser mole removal

Laser resurfacing stands out as a cutting-edge technique in the field of dermatology, offering a highly targeted and minimally invasive option for the removal of various skin lesions. This method uses concentrated light beams to precisely remove or reduce the appearance of unwanted lesions such as moles, age spots and certain types of scars. The appeal of laser surgery lies in its precision and reduced risk of scarring, making it the ideal choice for lesions located in visible areas such as the face and hands.

The procedure involves using a specific wavelength of laser light that is absorbed by the pigment in the skin lesion. This light energy is then converted into heat, which effectively breaks down the lesion at the cellular level without causing significant damage to the surrounding tissue. One of the main advantages of laser surgery is its ability to target the lesion while preserving the health and appearance of the surrounding skin.

Laser hair removal is also known for its fast recovery. Patients can often resume their daily activities shortly after the procedure, with minimal post-natal care required. This convenience, coupled with the effectiveness of the procedure, makes laser surgery a popular choice among patients seeking cosmetic enhancements, as well as those needing removal of benign or potentially malignant lesions.

How is mole removal performed?

Before every mole removal procedure and other skin lesions in our clinic, we perform a thorough mole examination. At the NYD Clinic, the team for the diagnosis and treatment of moles and other skin lesions consists of a dermatologist who performs a dermatological examination with dermatoscopy and a surgeon who removes the dermatoscopically identified lesions the same day.

Once the skin lesions to be removed have been identified, the removal process starts the same day. At the NYD clinic, we use very safe and proven methods of removing moles and other skin lesions, which are completely comfortable for all our patients and painless. With these methods and our professional and caring doctors, you are always in safe hands.

We use two techniques to remove skin lesions and moles: laser mole removal (RF) and surgical removal of moles and other lesions with a regular or radiofrequency knife.

If the mole or skin lesion is at risk (which will be determined by the dermatologist at the time of the examination), a sample should always be taken for pathohistological analysis.

All lesions requiring pathohistological analysis of the tissue are surgically removed so that the pathologist has adequate material for analysis. If the lesion or lesion is not risky and analysis is not required, radiofrequency removal is used.

What types of skin lesions are removed?

Removing skin tags

Most of the time we think of them as brown lesions, i.e. growths above skin level, but they can be very varied in appearance. They appear anywhere on the skin, singly or in groups, and are usually brown in colour. Their appearance is not age-related and can occur in all age groups.

Removing warts

These are viral formations, usually multiple, so they occur in clusters and spread easily and frequently to the surrounding area of the body, potentiated by skin wetness.

Fibroid removal

Connective growths that appear in clusters and are most commonly found on the neck, face, décolletage and various body folds.

Removal of xanthelasmas

Xanthelasma is the appearance of yellowish flat accumulations of fat under the skin of the upper or lower eyelids. Xanthelasma most commonly occurs near the inner corner of the eye, more often on the upper than on the lower eyelid.

Xanthelasma cannot be cured or disappear spontaneously and the only way to cure xanthelasma completely is by surgical removal.

Removal of haemangiomas

Also known as vascular tumours, they are tissue lesions that appear in babies within a few weeks of birth. They usually occur around the neck and head and are the most common tumours in children.

Most of them disappear within a few months, but some can last for several years and should be checked regularly. Haemangiomas can also occur in adulthood.

Lipoma removal

They appear as soft, mobile subcutaneous nodules formed from encapsulated adipose tissue and can occur anywhere on the body.

It is generally necessary and advisable to remove skin lesions as soon as possible to prevent them from forming and to prevent possible health problems if they are cancerous.
