Gynaecology

Self-pay gynaecological check-up

Regular gynaecological check-ups are an integral part of every woman's life.

A yearly visit to the gynaecologist not only maintains gynaecological health, but also prevents diseases and, with advice, alleviates even the smallest problems that are a common part of monthly cycles and menopausal years.

What does the review look like?

Before the examination itself, the gynaecologist will have a discussion with you, specifically addressing your current disorders and problems.
A very important piece of information is your menstrual cycle, especially date of last menstrual period. If you have had gynaecological problems, operations, procedures, childbirth and you are not sure whether the information is accurate, please bring all medical records relating to your gynaecological/general health.
We will definitely ask you, what medicines you are taking and whether you are allergic to any medicines, and about malignancies in the family, especially breast and ovarian cancer and the occurrence of thrombosis in the family. This information can be important when deciding on treatment.
The interview is the first, necessary and indispensable part of the gynaecological examination, not only for the health information but also to build rapport and trust, which reduces the fear of being screened. After talking and undressing in the cubicle, the patient lies down on the gynaecology table.
The first part of the review is visual inspection of the external genitaliafollowed by an examination of the vagina and cervix using a gynaecological instrument called a speculum.

When to go for a gynaecological check-up?

General recommendation

The general recommendation for girls and women is to have a regular gynaecological examination once a year.

PAP test and HPV test

The PAP test and HPV tests are carried out on the advice of a gynaecologist once a year until the age of 35, and once every two to three years after the age of 35 in women who are in a monogamous relationship and who have always had a normal PAP test result.

In most countries, this "preventive" PAP test is carried out every three years because it includes screening for sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) HPV and Chlamydia trachomatis.

>35 years

For women over 35, follow-up can be done at intervals of up to 3 years, with appropriate PAPA test and ultrasound findings.

Perimenopause, menopause and postmenopause

It is important to have preventive check-ups every 2 years during perimenopause, menopause and post-menopause. Due to the fluctuation of hormonal levels caused by the absence of menstruation, it is extremely important to have regular check-ups during this period of life.

The circulation of hormones can cause various problems, such as the well-known menopausal hot flushes, skin, hair, digestive problems, etc.

How long does a gynaecological examination take?

It usually takes a full gynaecological examination about half an hour.
After the examination itself, the gynaecologist explains to the patient what has been done, explains the findings and gives advice and recommendations for follow-up.

How do I prepare for a gynaecological examination?

Wash with water at home before the check-up. It is important not to wash the inside of the vagina and do not use aggressive productsas this can affect the swab and PAPA test.
Shaving the private parts is not necessary. Do as you feel most comfortable.
You should not have sex at least 24 hours before the gynaecological examination.
Depending on the reason you are coming, the recommendations for the best time to have the examination vary. If the check-up is routine, the best time for the check-up is mid-cycle.
At home, write down the questions you want to ask your gynaecologist, as it is often the case that important questions are forgotten, either because you are upset or because you are scared.

Fear during the conversation is unnecessary

Talk to your gynaecologist about sexual intercourse, unpleasant smells and mention if you have had a miscarriage.
All this information is important for the gynaecologist to be able to adjust the course of the gynaecological examination in terms of taking the appropriate cytology sample, vaginal or cervical smear, making the correct diagnosis and adjusting the necessary therapy.
If there is any information that might make you feel uncomfortable, your gynaecologist will never criticise you about your life choices or decisions. It is here to help you, reduce your fears and resolve your doubts about your gynaecological health and sex life.
So let me not be embarrassed if you have had an unprotected relationship, changed partners or had several partners before. Also tell your gynaecologist if you have had an abortion.
Don't be embarrassed if you come for a check-up because of persistent unpleasant odour and/or increased vaginal discharge, and if you haven't had time to freshen up or depilate your private parts and legs before the gynaecological check-up itself.
Your gynaecologist won't think that this is why you're not keeping your hygiene up, but will try to help solve the problem.
