What is MDPŠ?
Occupational, traffic and sports medicine ensures that we can work, drive and play sports with peace of mind. Through preventative check-ups, potential health problems can be detected in good time and an individual's capability assessed in key areas of life. These examinations are legally mandatory, and their purpose is clear: to protect health, enhance safety and reduce risks in the environment where we live and work.
Occupational health
When you get your first job or change jobs, it is important to check whether you are also medically fit for work. At the NYD Clinic, we carry out both pre-employment (before starting work) and periodic (every 1-5 years) medical examinations, through which the doctor assesses whether, given your health and working conditions, you are suitable for the work you will be doing.
At the NYD Clinic, we perform preliminary and periodic medical examinations.
What does the check-up include
The examination includes a clinical assessment by a specialist in occupational, traffic and sports medicine, basic and supplementary laboratory tests, blood pressure measurement, ECG recording, vision testing, hearing testing, a review of the patient's medical records from their primary care physician, and, where necessary, psychological testing.

Under the Health and Safety at Work Act (ZVZD-1), the employer is obliged to ensure the safety and health of workers during work if the risk assessment for health and safety at work identifies specific risks or if specific health requirements are laid down for a given workplace. By carrying out such examinations, there are fewer accidents, fewer occupational diseases and, consequently, fewer absences and potential costs for the employer. If no risks are identified in a specific workplace, the examination is not mandatory. The costs of all preventive health examinations shall be borne by the employer.
The employer sends the worker for a preventative health check with a referral form, which is completed on the prescribed form in two copies, of which the employer receives one copy back with the completed work ability assessment, and one copy is kept by the authorised doctor. At the NYD Clinic, available slots are visible on the website, and the usual waiting time is 1 week. Pre-employment checks usually take from 30 to 60 minutes, depending on the complexity of the workplace and any additional examinations. Periodic checks are usually shorter, as only those health aspects that are important for the specific workplace are checked.
Checks for drivers
A medical examination is compulsory for all drivers. The Drivers Act (ZVoz-1) stipulates that fitness to drive of a candidate or driver is also a condition for the issuance or renewal of a driving licence.
This means that a medical examination for drivers must be carried out by everyone who wishes to obtain or renew their driving licence. The medical examination is also compulsory for professional drivers, who must also regularly undergo follow-up medical examinations.

Driving licence categories
Individuals holding driving licences from categories A and B are amateur drivers. Category A includes a driving licence for two-wheeled motorcycles and tricycles, whilst category B is for passenger motor vehicles up to 3,500 kg, with a maximum of 8 additional seats, in addition to the driver's seat. Vehicles from categories C and D can be driven by professional drivers. Category C comprises the licence for driving goods motor vehicles over 3,500 kg, and category D comprises the licence for driving buses and the transport of more than 8 persons. Category E is not a standalone category, but represents an addition to other categories for driving combined vehicles, that is a motor vehicle together with a trailer.
What does the check-up include
Health check-ups for motor vehicle drivers include a clinical examination by a doctor, vision and hearing testing, an ECG recording, blood pressure measurement, laboratory tests, an assessment of psychophysical abilities and the issuance of a medical certificate for a driving licence.
What do you need
All candidates, please bring a valid identity document, and glasses or contact lenses if you wear them, to the examination. The doctor has access to the central patient register. If this is not sufficient, we will ask you for your medical records at the time of the examination. If you are renewing your driving licence, please also bring your current licence with you.
Certificate validity
The validity of a medical certificate for drivers in Slovenia is determined according to the category of the driving licence and the age of the driver. This means that there is no uniform length of validity for drivers of vehicles of all categories. The validity of a medical certificate for amateur Category B drivers is usually 10 years, which is the same as the validity of the driving licence.
Driving licence for older drivers
A category B driving licence is issued with a validity of 5 years after reaching the age of 70, when an individual submits a medical certificate. The renewal of the driving licence must be completed within one month of the certificate being issued. The validity of the medical certificate is usually 3 years.
